My Story
Hello, I am Rachel Shines. I am a 12-year-old gymnast who trains at LaFleur’s Gymnastics in Florida.
My parents tell me that I have been doing gymnastics at home before I was one years old. I would roll on the floor, jump on the bed and climb atop the sofas and other furniture.
My father was also a gymnast in high school and college and immediately recognized my interest and knack for gymnastics. So he coached me at an early age and enrolled me in a gym club.

I started gymnastics at LaFleur’s in the Tots Program at the age of two and have been enjoying gymnastics and hanging out with all of my gym friends ever since.
As a competitive gymnast in the USA Gymnastics Level 9 program, I have learned self-confidence, discipline and teamwork, which helps me in school and life.
I hope to compete in NCAA Division I college gymnastics as a gymnast for the No 1 Ranked UF Gators, Oklahoma U. or the UCLA Bruins. My dad, who graduated from the US Air Force Academy, is still trying to convince me to become a USAFA Lady Falcon — but I don’t think so.
